Poetry #1

"The Laughing Heart" by Charles Bukowski
Your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
Be on the watch.
There are ways out.
There is a light somewhere.
It may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
Be on the watch.
The gods will offer you chances.
Know them.
Take them.
You can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
And the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
Your life is your life.
Know it while you have it.
You are marvelous
the gods wait to delight in you

1. The poem being used in the commercial is called "The Laughing Heart" by Charles Bukoski.
2. I believe the use of the poem is very ironic considering the fact that the poem is suggesting not to be influence by others yet the commercial is advertising Levis.
 3. The poem doesn't reflect that authors reputation because Bukowski tends to be more harsh with his other pieces but he comes off as more positive and motivating in this particular poem.
4. I found #1 by asking Javier Solis where the link to the poem was and I Googled more about the author and found information here:  http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/charles-bukowski
